Impact › Impact Area
The impact the university creates by offering learning and development experiences.

One of the core functions of universities is education, and this function involves providing learning and development experiences to all stakeholders, students first and foremost. At Özyeğin University, we approach education not merely as the transfer of knowledge but as an experience through which students gain competencies, values and responsibility, and which transforms both students and society. Education at OzU is not limited to required courses. Studios, elective and common courses, certificate and summer school programs, extracurricular development activities offered through clubs, institutional training for students and employees, experiential learning, scholarships and holistic student support, as well as learning and development activities offered to our alumni and external stakeholders by various units such as the Continuing Education Academy, also fall within this area.
Here, we look for impact in making the competencies we help students gain, such as social responsibility, empathy, responsible citizenship, teamwork, and responsible and ethical use of technology, measurable and recognizable, and in the tangible contribution this learning and development experience makes to society. In the sections below, you can find our education initiatives under each theme heading and the Sustainable Development Goals they relate to.
In this theme, who do we reach, and which competencies and values do we help them gain?
Some of the indicators we use to monitor the impact of education on our students and alumni.

The core aim of the transformative education mission is to educate graduates who are committed to ethical values and act with a sense of social responsibility, who can think on a global scale and communicate effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments, and who can lead progress in business, entrepreneurship and academia.
To this end, a Transformative Education Program has been developed to recognize the courses within curricula and every kind of extracurricular learning and development effort that students put in during their years at OzU. The work students carry out is linked to the competencies within this program and made visible on a transcript. Experiences such as project- and problem-based learning; internships and field practice; micro-credentials and digital badges; lifelong learning programs; scholarship programs; and volunteer or club activities are recognized.
Courses and workshops that link environmental sustainability to everyday practices and behavior change; learning by doing focused on the circular economy, materials and production.
Examples: Sustainability and climate literacy courses; circular economy and eco-design workshops; campus sustainability project courses; bioplastic materials and circular economy workshops; environment/climate-themed courses and studios.
Covers certificate, training, mentoring, train-the-trainer and field-based learning activities that strengthen the knowledge, skills and implementation capacities of students, local actors, public sector experts, cooperatives, producer organizations and civil society representatives.
Examples: Specialized training in rural and local development; cooperative and social enterprise certificate programs; summer schools with fieldwork.
The impact of education is best told by our students and alumni who have lived this experience and by the organizations that work with them.
